Mr. Cluthers was of a mild retiring disposition to an exceptional degree, and for some years has been regarded as one of very meager circumstances, hence his revealing shortly before his death the fact that he was the possessor of some money which he had been accumulating since his return from California in 1866 [was surprising.] Suffice it say his possessions were ample to have kept him and his afflicted sister in comfortable circumstances during their lives without the receiving of support from a charitable public for years, as they have.
